MIDLAND, Mich. – In the quest for their first ever GLIAC Tournament title and their first GLIAC title since 1973, second-seeded Grand Valley State fell to top-seed Ferris State 5-2 in the 2016 GLIAC Tournament Final. The loss gives the Lakers a 16-7 record on the year.

Grand Valley State gained a 2-1 lead over the Bulldogs (21-4) after winning two out of three doubles matches. No. 2 pairing

In singles competition, Grand Valley State couldn't complete the upset as Ferris State won four singles matches to earn themselves the match win and their first GLIAC title since 2012.

Following the trophy presentation ceremony, the GLIAC announced the All-Conference teams for the 2015-16 season.
Alex van de Steenoven received All-GLIAC First Team honors, while
Sebastien Lescoulie received Second Team honors, and
Zach Phillips was named Honorable Mention. van de Steenoven went 4-5 against GLIAC opponents in singles play and 5-4 in doubles, while Lescoulie went 6-3 against the GLIAC in singles and 7-2 in doubles, and Phillips was 4-5 in the conference in singles and 5-4 in doubles.

With the GLIAC Tournament concluded, Grand Valley State will now turn their attentions to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament. Ranked third in the Midwest Region in the latest regional standings, the Lakers are a safe bet to qualify for the postseason. The Division II selection show is scheduled for Tuesday (May 3) at 8 pm on ncaa.com.
