Lakers Blank Wayne State, Advance to GLIAC Tournament Final

MIDLAND, Mich. – Second-seeded Grand Valley State advanced to the 2016 GLIAC Tournament Final with a 5-0 shutout over third-seeded Wayne State in the Semifinals on Saturday.
 
Grand Valley State (16-6) started off the match by winning all three doubles matches over the Warriors (13-12) to pull ahead 3-0. No. 1 pairing Alex van de Steenoven/Zach Phillips won 8-5, while No. 2 pairing Jack Heiniger/Sebastien Lescoulie and No. 3 pairing Andrew Bole/Nicholas Urban both won their matches 8-6.
 
Grand Valley State picked up two more points in singles play, ending the match by reaching the minimum five team points. van de Steenoven took match one (6-1, 6-1) and Lescoulie took match three (6-2, 6-0), and the remaining four matches went unfinished as GV hit five points.
 
Grand Valley State will take on top-seeded Ferris State (20-4-6) in the Tournament Final on Sunday (May 1) at the Greater Midland Tennis Center at 8:30 am. The teams last met on March 23, where the Bulldogs came out on top 6-3 on their home court.
