Lakers Drop Match to Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Grand Valley State men's tennis suffered their first loss in GLIAC play of the season in a 6-3 defeat to Ferris State (12-3, 3-0 GLIAC) at the FSU Racquet & Fitness Center Wednesday night. The loss puts the Lakers' record at 8-5 and 2-1 in the conference.
 
Grand Valley State, who was ranked 37th in the nation and third in the Midwest Region in the latest ITA Division II polls, fell behind early to the Bulldogs, ranked 36th nationally and second regionally, by dropping two doubles matches. The Lakers were able to score one point in doubles competition, with the No. 2 pairing Sebastien Lescoulie/Jack Heiniger winning 8-3 over their opposition.
 
In singles competition, the Lakers won only two matches to bring their team point total to three. Lescoulie won match No. 3 (6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4)) and Heiniger took match No. 4 (6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4)), both in thrilling three-set matches.
 
Grand Valley State hits the road against for their final two out-of-conference matches of the season. The Lakers travel to Indiana to take on Indianapolis on Friday (Mar. 25) at 1 pm and Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday (Mar. 26) at 6 pm, with both games taking place in Indianapolis.
