Results

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Grand Valley State returned from their trip to Florida with an intra-Division match with Western Michigan, losing 7-0 at the West Hills Athletic Club. The Lakers drop to 6-4 with the loss, while the Mustangs – the 67th-ranked team in Division I – see their record build to 12-4.

Playing Division I rules, doubles competition only counted as one point towards the team score, meaning whoever wins at least two doubles matches wins the point. Jack Heiniger/Sebastien Lescoulie won the second doubles match 6-3, but the Lakers lost the post after dropping the No. 1 and No. 3 matches.

Western Michigan won all six doubles points, with Nicholas Urban being the only Laker to draw his match into a tiebreaking third-set in the No. 6 match. Urban lost the first set 6-1, won 6-1 in the second set, and battled for an 11-9 loss in the tiebreaker match.

The Lakers is on the road this weekend as they begin conference play. Grand Valley State first takes on Hillsdale on Saturday (Mar. 19) at 1 pm, and then Findlay on Sunday (Mar. 20) at 10 am.
