Grand Valley State's
Allison Lipovsky collected her first GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honor on Monday morning (Mar. 14), as the freshman righthander had a dominant week at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. Lipovsky was part of a terrific Laker pitching staff that helped GVSU go 10-2 during the trip and return to Allendale with a 14-2 overall record.
Â
Making four appearances and three starts in the circle for the Lakers, Lipovsky went a perfect 4-0 last week, which pushes her record to 6-0 overall. She tossed three complete game victories and allowed just four runs on nine hits in 22.0 innings in the circle last week. Lipovsky recorded 33 strikeouts against only four walks in her four appearances.
Â
Her first outing on Monday (Mar. 7) was arguably the best performance of her short career. The Lakers topped in-region foe Quincy and Lipovsky notched a complete game two-hit shutout, walking one batter and striking out a dozen Hawks. She followed up a terrific nine-inning outing from senior
Sara Andrasik to pitch a 1-2-3 inning of relief in a 3-2, 10-inning walkoff win over Southern Indiana, a team that defeated GVSU in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Â
On Thursday against Trevecca Nazarene - also a 2015 NCAA Tournament Team that won 40 games - she gave up three runs on four hits in seven innings of work. Lipovsky walked one batter and notched 11 strikeouts in a 116-pitch outing, as GVSU won 4-3. Her final outing on Saturday was in a 6-1 victory over Minnesota State Moorhead, as Lipovsky allowed just one run on three hits. In seven innings, she walked two and struck out nine.
Â
For the season, Lipovsky is 6-0 with a 0.82 earned run average. She has earned the win in all six of her appearances. In 34.1 innings pitched, Lipovsky has allowed just seven runs on only 18 hits, walking six and striking out 44. Opponents are hitting just .150 off of her, with only one extra-base hit.
Â
The Lakers return to Allendale where their home opener is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon (Mar. 16). GVSU is slated to face Aquinas in a non-league doubleheader, starting at 3:00 p.m.
