ALLENDALE – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference (GLIAC) released the softball all-conference awards today. Eight Lakers were named to the All-GLIAC teams and
Madelynn Pope was named the Freshman of the Year. Two Lakers were named to the first team, four to the second team, and two earned honorable mention honors.
Freshman
Madelynn Pope has been named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year and earned All-GLIAC first team honors. Pope become the ninth player in GVSU program history to earn GLIAC freshman of the year honors. Pope has appeared and started in 40 games this season and leads GVSU with a .365 batting average. She also leads the team with eight triples, .617 slugging percentage, and a 1.022 OPS. Pope has notched 42 hits with 25 runs batted in and 23 runs scored this season. In conference play, Pope hit .426 with a .439 on-base percentage and 1.217 OPS. She began conference play with six hits, two triples, and four runs scored in the opening doubleheader at Roosevelt. Pope drove in a season high four runs in wins against Purdue Northwest and Davenport including her first collegiate home run in the win at Purdue Northwest.
Junior pitcher
Nevaeh Ingram earned All-GLIAC first team honors. Ingram leads the team with a 2.61 ERA and has posted a 14-8 record in the circle. She has tossed 19 complete games with five shutouts. Ingram has pitched 142.1 innings and has struck out 92 batters on the season. In her last three appearances, Ingram has not allowed any runs and has thrown two games giving up just one hit.
Senior
Morgan Spicer, junior
Elizabeth Wesoloski, sophomore
Faith Edwards and freshman
Karli Dorr earned All-GLIAC second team honors. Spicer has appeared and started in all 50 games at the shortstop position. She is hitting .288 on the season with 40 hits and a team leading 10 doubles. Wesoloski has appeared and started in all 50 games hitting .344 with a team leading 43 runs batted in and nine home runs. Edwards has appeared and started in 49 games hitting .300 on the season with a team leading 27 walks and .429 on-base percentage. Dorr has appeared in 40 games making 38 starts with 21 starts in the circle. She has posted a 2.81 ERA with a team leading 115 strikeouts. Dorr is hitting .302 on the season with 35 hits and 15 runs scored.
Junior
Eliana Eiland and freshman
Grace Usher earned All-GLIAC honorable mention honors. Eiland has appeared and started in all 50 games playing in center field. She is hitting .263 with 41 hits, 25 runs scored, and 17 runs batted in. Usher has appeared in 44 games making 42 starts and is hitting .304 with 41 hits, two home runs, and a team leading 10 doubles.
GVSU will begin postseason play this weekend in the GLIAC Tournament in Rosemont, Illinois. The Lakers earned the two seed and get a first-round bye and will play the winner of Ferris State and Roosevelt on Friday, May 2
nd at 2:30 PM ET / 1:30 PM CT.
