ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Grand Valley State softball team began postseason play at the GLIAC Tournament with a 3-1 win against Ferris State Friday (May 2) afternoon in Rosemont, Illinois. The Lakers improve to 27-24 on the season and will face Saginaw Valley State in the winner's bracket tomorrow (May 3) at 11:00 AM CT.
GVSU got on the board in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Carsyn Segorski hit a two-out RBI single to left field to score
Karli Dorr from second base. The Lakers added two insurance runs in the sixth inning off the bat of
Eliana Eiland. With runners on second and third with one out, Eiland launched a double to left field to score both
Morgan Spicer and Dorr. Ferris State would score one run in the seventh inning, but
Nevaeh Ingram would record the final out with the tying run at first base.
GVSU notched nine hits and did not commit one error, while Ferris State had five hits with two errors. Eiland hit 2-3 with a double and two runs batted in to lead the Laker offense. Spicer notched a single and scored the game winning run in the sixth inning.
Faith Edwards hit a double, while
Karli Dorr recorded a hit and scored two runs.
Carsyn Segorski added a hit and RBI, while
Elizabeth Wesoloski,
Grace Usher, and
Madelynn Pope each added a hit in the win.
GVSU will face Saginaw Valley State in the winner's bracket tomorrow (May 3) morning at 11:00 AM CT in Rosemont, Illinois. The winner will advance to the GLIAC Championship on Sunday while the loser will play in an elimination game tomorrow at 4:00 PM CT. The game will be streamed live on FloSports.
