ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State softball team closed out their regular season with a doubleheader sweep over Wayne State Saturday (April 26) afternoon. The Lakers won game one 3-0 and game two 3-1 to improve to 26-24 on the season and finished with a 17-11 GLIAC mark.
Game One – W, 3-0
GVSU opened the scoring in the second inning off the bat of
Grace Usher who singled to center field to score
Eliana Eiland from second base. The Lakers would score two runs in the third to go up 3-0.
Nevaeh Ingram hit an RBI infield single to score
Jasmine Mauk. Later in the inning,
Morgan Spicer singled to left center to score Ingram from third.
Faith Edwards and
Elizabeth Wesoloski each had two hits to lead the Lakers.
Nevaeh Ingram notched a hit with an RBI and run scored.
Morgan Spicer and
Grace Usher each recorded a hit and RBI. Ingram got the start in the circle and tossed her third consecutive shutout, pitching all seven innings allowing just four hits.
Game Two – W, 3-1
GVSU got on the board early on a two-run home run to left center by Elizabeth Weosloski. That home run is Weosloski's team leading ninth of the season and 43
rd RBI of the season. The Lakers would make it 3-0 on a sacrifice fly to right field by
Jasmine Mauk to score
Allyson Theunick. Wayne State would get on the scoreboard in the fourth inning, but the Lakers would shut the Warriors down in the final three innings.
Grace Usher notched two hits while Wesoloski launched a home run and drove in two runs.
Jasmine Mauk had a hit and RBI, while
Eliana Eiland and
Nevaeh Ingram each added a hit in the win.
Karli Dorr got the start in the circle and tossed all seven innings allowing just one run off three hits with two strikeouts.
