Lakers Drop Match to Northwestern Ohio

LIMA, Ohio – Grand Valley State suffers their first loss of the season in an 8-1 decision to NAIA squad Northwestern Ohio on the road. In their defeat to the Racers, who are ranked sixth in the NAIA, the Lakers drop to 2-1 while their opponents improve to 5-1.
 
GVSU scored their only points of the match in doubles play, with Alex van de Steenoven/Zach Phillips winning the No. 1 pairing 8-5. The other two doubles pairings both lost close matches, with Jack Heiniger/Sebastien Lescoulie dropping the No. 2 match 8-5 and Andrew Bole/Michael Kaye falling 8-6 in match No. 3.
 
The Lakers were swept in all six singles matches, although Heiniger was able to win a set in his 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 defeat from the No. 3 position.
 
Grand Valley State returns to the courts for a non-conference match against regional opponent Southern Indiana on Sunday (Feb. 28) at the Premier Athletic Club in Grandville.
