#2 Grand Valley State will host #8 Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday in NCAA Division II Super Region 4 Playoff action. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Lubbers Stadium. GVSU (11-0) is the top seed in the Super Region 4, while Texas A&M-Commerce (11-1) is the four seed and claimed a 34-23 victory over Colorado Mesa last Saturday.

• The Series
Grand Valley State and Texas A&M-Commerce, formerly East Texas State, have met twice, with both meetings coming in the NCAA DII Playoffs. East Texas State claimed a 20-14 victory over GVSU in Allendale in 1990, followed by a 36-15 victory over the Lakers in Commerce, Texas in 1991. 

NCAA Playoffs
• Grand Valley State is making its 18th trip to the NCAA DII Playoffs, the third highest total among active DII schools. In addition, GVSU's 34 wins and .723 winning percentrage both rank second all-time in DII playoff history. GVSU is 34-14 all-time in the NCAA DII playoffs, including a 34-9 mark since 2001...GVSU is 7-3 in the NCAA playoffs under Mitchell. The Lakers have won four NCAA DII National Championships since 2002 and advanced to the NCAA title game six times since 2001. GVSU has advanced to at least the semifinals nine times since 2001. The Lakers have advanced to the NCAA DII Semifinals twice in the last three years.

• Grand Valley State is in its 46th season of football and sports a 382-137-3 all-time record. GVSU's .7346 winning percentage tops all of college football all-time, regardless of division, that have played at least 500 games. Michigan is second (.7324) and Notre Dame third (.7291).

• Grand Valley State remained #2 in the AFCA Division II Coaches' poll with 712 points after a 24-21 victory at Wayne State. NW Missouri State is #1 with all 30 first place votes and 750 points.

• Grand Valley State has been ranked in the top five of 156 AFCA Division II Coaches' polls since 2001, including 102 weeks as the number one team in the country.
• Grand Valley State has outscored its opponents 141-14 in the first quarter and 118-50 in the second quarter for a first half total of 259-64 (23.5-5.8). Grand Valley State did not yield either a first half or rushing TD until the eighth game of the season. After not giving up a TD in the first half of the first seven games, the Lakers did not yielded a TD in the second half of games nine and 10. 

• GVSU has converted 60-of-125 (48.0%) attempts on 3rd down this season, while the opposition is 50-for-155 (32.0%).

• The Laker defense ranks first in the GLIAC and 15th nationally in QB sacks with 38 (-226), while also ranking second in the GLIAC and 37th nationally in tackles for loss with 86 (-345). 

• GVSU ranks first in the GLIAC and 31st nationally in 3rd down conversion defense (.323), while ranking first in the GLIAC and 5th nationally in redzone defense (.606)

• The GVSU defense has forced 42 three-and-outs and 63 drives have been five plays or less in 11 games.

• QB Bart Williams has completed 162-of-265 passes for 2,713 yards and 26 TDs this season, having played in just 37 of 44 quarters...Ranks 3rd in passing yards per attempt (10.2)...4th nationally in passing yards per completion (16.7) and  fifth in pass efficiency rating (172.7)...Ranks 22nd in passing TDs (26)...Tossed two or more TD passes nine time and three or more four times...Williams has thrown for 6,928 yards and 72 TD passes in 26 career starts.

• Carter was named the GLIAC Offensive Back of the Year and First-Team All-GLIAC after leading the nation in regular season rushing with 1,590 yards and 18 touchdowns on 205 carries. His rushing total is also the top regular-season rushing mark in GVSU football history, while the 1,486 rushing yards in GLIAC action ranks seventh all-time in league history. Marty averaged 7.8 yards per carry, a mark that ranked third nationally and first among all running backs with 200 or more carries...Carter led the GLIAC and ranked eighth in rushing TDs...Ranked 10th total TDs (19) and 11th in total points with 114...Carter also led the GLIAC in all-purpose yards with 1,646. Marty tallied seven runs of 53 yards or more, six of which went for touchdowns and he had 20 rushing plays of 20 yards or more in 11 games. Carter broke the 100-yard rushing mark in eight games, including a GVSU single-season record three games of 200 yards or more.

Mike Ratay had an 87 yard run at Northwood in 2013, but did not score...Carter touched the ball 10 times in the game for 146 all-purpose yards, averaging 16.0 yards per rush and 14.6 yards per touch. He went 79 yards for a TD on the first play of the game and then added a 30-yard touchdown run and a 2-yard TD reception in the first quarter.  
     Carter tallied a record-setting performance with 298 yards and three touchdowns on 20 carries in a 50-24 victory over Northern Michigan (9/17) in which he was named the D2Football.com National Offensive Player of the Week and the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week....Carter's rushing total was a GVSU single-game record and tied for the 10th-best, single-game total in GLIAC history...Former Laker Chris Robinson previously held the GV record with 261 yards on 33 carries at Findlay in 2014.

• Senior RB Terrell Dorsey ranks second on the squad in rushing with 91 carries for 473 yards and five TDs...Rushed for 73 yards and a TD at Saginaw Valley State (11/5)...Toted the ball nine times for 47 yards at Hillsdale (10/22)...Rushed for 43 yards on 11 carries vs. Truman State (10/15)...Toted the ball 11 times for 37  yards and two TDs at Walsh (9/24)...Dorsey rushed for 51 yards and one TD on 12 carries vs. Northern Michigan (9/17)...Rushed 15 times for 100 yards vs. Tiffin (9/1), marking the second and only time in his career that Dorsey reached the 100-yard mark.
