MIDLAND, Mich. - After falling to #2 Tiffin on the second day of the GLIAC Tournament, the #3 Lakers bounced back to win 5-0 over #4 Ferris State to finish in third place.
Doubles play led the way for Grand Valley as they would take a quick 3-0 lead over Ferris State heading into singles competition. In No. 1 doubles, the duo of
Madison Ballard and
Rachel Sumner won their match-up against Tedora Stefanovic and Nika Hein by a score of 8-1. The No. 2 doubles match featured
Aimee Moccia and
Allie Sweeney, who took on Silvia Verebes and Nicole Maylor, and came out with a 8-2 Laker victory.
Abby Perkins and
Livia Christman wrapped up the doubles 3-0 sweep by taking down Sydney Berens and Arien Kissinger by a score of 8-2 as well.
Taking the 3-0 lead into singles play, the Lakers would win the first two matches, securing the victory. Winning one of those matches was Sweeney as she took down Hein by a score of 6-0, 6-2. The other victory came by the hands of
Nikki Heiniger as she defeated Berens by a 6-3, 6-2 margin.
The Lakers finish their season 11-3 overall with a 9-2 mark in GLIAC play and a third place finish in the GLIAC tournament.
