GVSU Improves To 4-1 With Win Over Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team impoved to 4-1 on the season with a 7-2 road win over Hillsdale. 

The Lakers swept the doubles portion of the dual match led by the duo of Maddison Ballard and Alexa Sweeney. The pair downed Halle Hyman and Katie Bell by a score of 9-7. Juniors Aimee Moccia and Rachel Sumner also won their doubles match with a score of 8-6. The final doubles match featured junior Abby Perkins and sophomore Livia Christman. The duo was able to win their match against Madeline Bissett and Dana Grace Buck by a score of 8-5. 

The Lakers went 4-2 in singles competition on the day. In No. 2 singles Sweeney defeated Corinne Prost by a score of 6-1, 6-3. Grand Valley saw their other three wins come in the No. 4, 5, and 6 positions with Moccia (6-3, 6-3), Christman (6-0, 6-2), and Nicole Heiniger (6-2, 6-3) all coming away with victories. 

The Lakers will be back in action this weekend as they face Wayne State in a dual match on Sunday, Oct. 2.
