ResultsGrand Rapids, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's tennis squad opened the 2015 portion of their schedule with a 7-2 victory against Davenport Friday (Feb. 6) evening at the MVP SportsPlex in Grand Rapids. The win gives GVSU a 1-0 record to start the Spring season, while the Panthers dropped to 2-2 with the loss.

GVSU jumped ahead early with wins in the first four matches of singles competition and put their first competition of the Spring out of reach from their opponent. The Lakers went up 6-1 with wins from Bertrand (6-1, 6-0) in the #1 spot, Steenoven (7-6 [7-5], 6-4) in the #2 spot, Phillips (6-2, 6-3) in the three-spot, and Heiniger (6-2, 6-2) in the four-spot. Davenport picked up their first singles win in the #5 spot against
Bryan Hodges to make it 6-2, but Bole picked up the win in the tiebreaker set (6-2, 3-6, 10-7) in the #6 game to end the match in favor of the Lakers.

Grand Valley State returns to the court for the Grand Rapids City Tournament on Friday (Feb. 13) and Saturday (Feb. 14). Their next dual match will be held at the Ramblewood Tennis & Health Club on Feb. 22 against Northwestern (Ohio).
