ResultsAllendale, Mich. - In a late Thurday conference tilt, the Grand Valley State men's tennis team suffered their first defeat of the season, a 6-3 decision to Ferris State at the Ramblewood Tennis & Health Center. The loss drops the Lakers to 2-1 and 0-1 in the GLIAC, while the Bulldogs push to 3-1 and 1-0 in the conference.
GVSU took the doubles side of the match, with the No. 1 and No. 2 teams taking victories and a 2-1 lead.

Alex van de Steenoven won 8-5 in the No. 2 spot.
Bertrand took his singles match in straight 6-2 sets, but that would be the only Laker win in singles play.Ferris State won the remaining singles matches, pulling away with the contest.
Zach Phillips (7-6, 5-7, 6-3) and
Bryan Hodges (1-6, 6-2, 6-2) were the only GVSU players to go into a tiebreaker set.
Grand Valley State now heads down to Florida for their annual Spring Break trip. The Lakers begin the break with two contests in on Sunday (Mar. 1), first with Savannah College of Art & Design at 11 a.m., followed at 5 p.m. when they face Montana State-Billings.
