ResultsAllendale, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis continued their excellent start to the spring season, pulling off a 7-2 upset victory over NAIA 17th-ranked Northwestern (Ohio) at the Ramblewood Tennis & Health Club in Grandville on Sunday (Feb. 22).
GVSU took two of the three doubles matches, with the #2 team of
Zach Phillips/
Alex van de Steenoven winning 8-5 an the #3 team of
Quinn Sylow/
Jack Heiniger winning 8-4. Over in singles action, the Laker men won five of the six matches, with only Phillips suffering a narrow defeat (7-6 [5-0], 7-5).
Francis Bertrand and
Jack Heiniger were the only GVSU players to win their matches without going into a tiebreaker set.
The Lakers hit the courts again on Wednesday (Feb. 25) when they host GLIAC rival Ferris State at the Ramblewood Tennis & Health Club in Grandville.
