#14 GVSU To Host SVSU In Battle of the Valleys

#14 Grand Valley State will host Saginaw Valley State in the regular season finale Saturday (Nov. 14) afternoon at Lubbers Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Grand Valley State enters the game 8-2 overall and 7-2 in GLIAC action, while Saginaw Valley State is 1-9 overall and 1-8 in league play. GVSU is seventh in the latest NCAA DII Super Region 4 rankings and needs a win to stay in the mix.

The Series
Grand Valley State leads the all-time series with Saginaw Valley State by a 33-11 margin and have won three consecutive and 11-of-the-last-12 games in the series. Since 2005 the lone SVSU was a 55-52 win in 2013. The Lakers claimed a 21-3 win over the Cardinals last season and won a pair of games the previous year, winning the regular season finale, 49-34, then a 40-7 win one week later in an NCAA DII Playoff game. GVSU is averaging 42.2 points in the last five meetings against SVSU. The Lakers sport a record of 20-2 at Lubbers Stadium versus the Cardinals and a 13-9 mark at Wickes Stadium. From 2002 - 2010, Grand Valley State was ranked either No. 1 or No. 2  in 10 of the 11 meetings with the Cardinals. Prior to the 2013 the lone time SVSU has been ranked higher than GVSU was in the 2003 playoffs and GVSU claimed a 10-3 win at Saginaw Valley State in the playoffs and eventually went on to win the National Chamionship.

• Grand Valley State is in its 45th season of football and sport a 367-136-3 all-time record. GVSU's .726 winning percentage tops all Division II schools and is third all-time in all divisions behind Notre Dame (.733) and Michigan (.732).

• Grand Valley State has the second longest streak for consecutive games without being shutout at 288 games. The Lakers were last shutout by Ferris State (23-0) in 1992. Valdosta State's 291 games without being shutout is the longest streak.

• Grand Valley State claimed a 49-42 victory at Tiffin. The Lakers led 34-28 at the half and added 15 points in the fourth quarter to pull out the win. QB Bart Williams completed 20-of-30 passes for 306 yards and five TDs, while WR Matt Williams established career-highs in receptions (8) and receiving yards (158) to go along with his two TD catches. WR Jamie Potts caught five passes for 75 yards and two TDs. RB Kirk Spencer rushed for 117 yards and two TDs on 10 carries and recorded 224 all-purpose yards. LB Marquez Gollman led the defense with 12 tackles, while LB David Talley chipped in 10 stops and recovered a fumble. DE Matt Judon became the Lakers' all-time, single-season leader in QB sacks with 3.5 in the game giving him 18.0 on the year.
