TIFFIN, Ohio – In their first official match since their defeat by Wayne State on September 21, the Grand Valley State women's tennis team travelled to GLIAC rival Tiffin and left with a 6-3 victory over the host Dragons. The win upped GVSU's record to 5-1 on the season, while Tiffin dropped to 6-4 and 4-4 in the conference.
Kali Phillips registered the first Laker win of the season, beating her opponent (7-6, 6-4) to knot the game at 1-1. Grand Valley State then took control of the match, with
Carola Orna,
Alexa Sweeney,
Abby Perkins, and
Kelly Trapp all winning their singles matches to put the Lakers up for good over the Dragons.
Phillips and
Leah Dancz teamed up to win the first doubles match of the afternoon (8-1). Tiffin took the other two doubles matches, but by that point GVSU had the victory in the bag.
GRand Valley State returns to action on Sunday when they square off against conference foe Findlay at 11 a.m.
