2014: Played in 22 games (11 starts)...Hit .270 with nine runs, 10 hits, two home runs, 10 RBI and a .420 on-base percentage...Had four multi-RBI games...Took over designated hitter duties late in the season, starting each of the last 10 games the Lakers played...Went 2-for-4 with a home run, run scored and two RBI in the opening game of the regional tournament against Lake Erie (5/15)...Went 1-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, a home run, walk and hit by pitch against Tiffin (5/9) in the GLIAC Tournament...Had three RBI against Ashland (5/8) in the GLIAC Tournament...Went 1-for-1 with a run and two RBI against Saginaw Valley State (4/17).
2013: Played in 11 games (four starts)...Scored one run, had a double and drove in two, while also throwing out 40-percent of potential base-stealers from behind the plate...Went 1-for-1 with a double and two RBI against Bellarmine (5/18) in the Midwest Regional Tournament.
Prior to GVSU: Spent two seasons at Kellogg Community College under head coach Eric Laskovy...Injured most of 2012, but had two doubles, four runs and five RBI in 41 at-bats...In 2011, Hess hit .293 with 16 runs and eight RBI in 58 at-bats, leading the team at the Junior College World Series with a .571 batting average, where Kellogg C.C. finished in fourth place.
