ALLENDALE, MICH. – The 16
th-ranked Grand Valley State women's volleyball team stayed perfect in conference play, picking up a four-set win over Davenport Friday night. The victory moved GVSU to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in the GLIAC.
Davenport took the opening set 20-25, but GVSU answered back to win the next three 25-18, 25-20, and 25-19. The Lakers took a 15-10 in the opening set, but the Panthers went on an 11-2 run to take a 21-16 lead, holding on for a five-point win. GVSU once again took a lead over midway through the set, this time up 17-9. DU responded with a 7-3 run to get within four points. The Lakers held strong, not letting them get any closer, tying the match at one set each.
In set number three, the two teams traded points and mini scoring runs until the game was tied at 17. From that point on, Grand Valley State went on a game-ending 8-3 scoring run to take a 2-1 advantage. The fourth set saw a back-and-forth affair for most of the frame. With the Panthers holding a 17-16 lead, the Lakers scored six straight points to retake the lead, one they would not relinquish the rest of the game.
Finley Arp had another big game to lead the offense. The freshman tallied 16 kills, while also serving three aces.
Paige Sanders recorded 12 kills on a .571 hitting percentage, while
Kennedy Arp had 11 kills and five blocks.
Gabby Orlet totaled another double-double, with 44 assists and 12 digs, and she also had four service aces.
Lexi Armstrong once again led the team in digs, posting 25.
