ALLENDALE – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced today (Aug. 25) the women's soccer preseason poll. The Lakers were picked to finish first with nine first-place votes and 81 total points.
Following the Lakers is Saginaw Valley State with one first-place vote and 71 total points. Ferris State, Parkside, and Northern Michigan round out the top five. Davenport was sixth, while first year program Wayne State was selected to finish seventh, with Purdue Northwest, Roosevelt, and Michigan Tech behind them.
GVSU will be guided by second year head coach
Katelyn Longino in the 2026 season. The Lakers are coming off a 19-2-1 a season ago, winning the GLIAC regular season with a 13-1 conference mark and the GLIAC tournament championship.
GVSU returns eight starters from last season's team led by sophomore All-American goalkeeper
Macie Hunter. Hunter was named a D2CCA third team All-American and earned GLIAC Goalkeeper of the Year honors as a freshman. She posted a 17-1-1 record in goal with 29 saves and 12 shutouts. Senior defender
Acadia Murphy returns after earning first team All-Region and All-Conference honors in the 2025 season. Murphy started in all 22 games and ranked second on the team in minutes played. First team All-Conference performer
Sarah Fromm returns for her junior season after leading the Lakers in goals scored in the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
The Lakers begin the 2026 season this Thursday, August 27
th at #22 Ashland at 6:00 PM. GVSU will host Cedarville on Saturday, August 29
th at 1:00 PM in the home opener. Both games will be streamed live on FloCollege.
