Men's Golf In Second After Opening Day Of Regional Play

BIG RAPIDS, MICH. – The Grand Valley State men's golf team began NCAA regional play Thursday, teeing off in the opening round of action. After 18 holes, the Lakers are in second place, two strokes back of the leader.
 
Results
 
The top team on the leaderboard is Winona State, who carded a -4 on the first day. The Lakers are behind them after shooting -2 today. Arkansas Tech and USML are tied for third with a score of +5, while Wayne State and Central Missouri are tied for fifth at +6.
 
Manuel Cue Vargas is tied atop the individual leaderboard, after he shot an opening round of 67 (-5) with six birdies and an eagle. Andrew Gwilliams made five birdies in his round of 72 (E) to conclude the day tied for 12th. In a tie for 21st is Bryce Wheeler, who carded a 73 (+1) with three birdies. Ryan Gallagher sank four birdies in his round of 74 (+2) to finish tied for 29th. In a tie for 51st is Charlie Cooley, who shot a 76 (+4), making four birdies.
 
GVSU will tee off Friday starting at 10:00, paired with Findlay and Central Oklahoma.
