GVSU Set To Host Kentucky Wesleyan In NCAA Midwest Region Action

Grand Valley State was selected as the NCAA DII Midwest Region #1 seed and will host one of two regionals beginning Thursday, May 14. GVSU, the GLIAC regular season and tournament champion with a 45-8 record, will face GMAC Tournament Champion and #8 seeded Kentucky Wesleyan (30-22) Thursday. GVSU is making an appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive year and is hosting for a second straight year.

 ° Grand Valley State head coach Jordan Keur is in his third year as the leader of the program, posting a 118-47 (.700) record overall. Keur reached the 100-win mark faster than any other head baseball coach in Laker history (145 games). GVSU is 88-22 the last two years under Keur. He has guided the Lakers to a GLIAC Tournament title's in 2024 and 2026, a GLIAC regular season championship (2026) and three appearances in the NCAA Tournament. GVSU is 56-22 (.706) in GLIAC action under Keur and 12-6 in postseason action (10-2 GLIAC/2-4 NCAA).   

° In addition to being one of the top offensive teams in the country, the Laker pitching staff has been equally impressive. GVSU is second nationally in ERA (3.54), fourth in WHIP (1.28) and 12th in walks per 9 (3.46). The Laker offense leads the GLIAC in BA (.340), on base percentage (.441), hits (609), runs (509), and slugging percentage (.510).
  
° GVSU has outscored its opponents 198-65 in the first three innings this season and have scored 10 or more runs 22 times (21-1) and scored six or more runs 39 times (34-5). The Lakers are 35-3 when scoring first. GVSU has outscored its opponents 509-201.

° GVSU set single-season team records for runs (509), RBI (469), and walks (275). Individually, Evan Morrison set a record for runs (81), Jovan Gill RBIs (82) and Caleb Estrada total bases (152).

While GVSU has only played 13 home games this season, GVSU is hitting .314 with 127 hits, 87 runs, 19 doubles, five triples and 17 home runs. The Laker pitching staff has a 2.07 ERA and is holding opponents to a .207 batting average. Laker opponents have 13 doubles, two triples and four home runs. 

° SS Evan Morrison - GLIAC Player of the Year...First-Team All-GLIAC...2-time GLIAC Player of the Week...2025 and 2026 GLIAC All-Tournament team...Morrison is hitting .401 and leads the league and ranks fifth nationally in hits (91), runs scored with a GLIAC and GVSU single-season record of 81 and triples with six...Morrison leads the GLIAC and ranks second nationally in the toughest to strike out category (6K)...Opened the year with a 31-game hitting streak and reached base in 49-of-53 games..Scored a run in 39 games and scored two or more runs 24 times...Tallied 29 multi-hit games, including 14 games with three hits or more...Reached base via a hit, walk or hit by pitch 122 times and accounted for 123 runs (runs-RBI)...Has reached base safely in 104-of-110 games played in his two years with the 
Lakers...2025 First-Team All-GLIAC.

° Junior 3B Caleb Estrada - First-Team All-GLIAC...Leads the GLIAC in home runs (17) and total bases (152), ranks second in hits (84), RBIs (67), runs scored (66) and fifth in the BA (.385)...Set the GVSU single-season record for total bases (152)...Current reached base streak of 51 consecutive games...Notched 25 multi-hit games and 18 multi-RBI games...Tallied a hit in 46 games and scored a run in 43 games.

° Senior 1B Jovan Gill - First-Team All-GLIAC...GLIAC All-Tournament team...Leads the GLIAC in RBIs with 82 and is second in home runs (14) and doubles (18)...Recorded 28 multi-hit games and 21 multi-RBI games...Has a season-best 14-game hitting streak and 15-game reached base streak...Has driven in a run in 41 games...Current 12-game hitting streak...Hitting .471 at home with 24 hits, nine doubles, seven home runs, 17 RBI and 15  runs scored.

 ° Senior CF Jake Skaggs - Second-Team All-GLIAC...GLIAC All-Tournament team...Hitting .333 with 63 hits, 47 runs scored and 49 RBI...Skaggs has 17 multi-hit games and 15 multi-RBI games...Notched 13 doubles, three triples and five home runs...Stellar play defensively.

° Senior 2B Ayden VanEnkevort - GLIAC All-Tournament team...Hitting .270 with 45 hits, 40 runs scored and 37 RBI...Tallied 174 hits, 126 runs scored and 118 RBI in his career...Hitting .385 in home games with 15 hits, nine RBI and eight runs scored. 

° Sophomore LF Caden Thelen is hitting .289 with 44 hits, 41 runs scored, 41 RBI, eight doubles, three triples and three home runs...Leading the team in HBP with 14, just one behind his father, Brent Thelen, who set the single-season marker with 15 in 1997.  In addition, Thelen has 13 multi-hit games, 13 multi-RBI games...Season-best 17-game reached base streak. 

° Freshman RF Josh Fleming - First-Team All-GLIAC DH...Hitting .431 in 34 games for the Lakers...Tallied seven doubles, seven home runs, 35 runs scored and 34 RBI...Current reached base streak of 28 consecutive games. 

° Junior OF Ryan Stimac is hitting .378 in 36 games with 45 hits, 38 runs scored, 19 RBI and nine doubles...Stimac has reached base in all 36 games he has played, while notching 11 multi-hit games and a season-best 13-game hitting streak.

° Senior OF Will Bowen - GLIAC All-Tournament team...Hitting .329 in 28 games, recording 24 hits, 17 runs, seven doubles, one HR and 27 RBI...Hitting .385 in nine home games with 10 hits and seven RBI.

° Senior Pitcher Collin Bradley - GLIAC Pitcher of the Year...First-Team All-GLIAC...GLIAC All-Tournament team...Sports a 10-0 record with a 1.88 ERA...Yielded 17 earned runs in 80.2 innings with 61 strikeouts and set program records earlier this season with 28.2 consecutive innings without allowing a run and 34.1 innings without allowing an earned run...Allowed two runs or less in 11 of 13 starts and logged 6.0 IP or more in eight starts...Leads the GLIAC in WHIP (0.92) and walks allowed per nine innings (1.81)...Fourth nationally in ERA (1.87) and fourth in wins (10)...and Bradley ranks third in wins with 25, fifth in strikeouts with 190 and sixth in innings pitched with 223.1. 

Junior Pitcher Owen Avery - First-Team All-GLIAC...9-1 on the year with a 2.73 ERA...He has 58 strikeouts and yielded just 21 earned runs in 69.1 inning pitched..He has pitched five or more innings in a start 10 times and has yielding two runs or less nine times...The Lakers are 12-1 in games started by Avery and opponents are hitting just .230...3-0 at home with a 0.98 ERA in 18.1 innings...19 strikeouts and two earned runs.

° Freshman pitcher Jackson Kees - GLIAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year...9-1 with a 3.56 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 65.2 innings pitched. He has logged 5.0 innings or more in nine of 13 starts and yielded two runs or less in nine starts. Kees' nine wins as a freshman is the top single-season total in GVSU annals. He ranks in the top five of six individual GLIAC pitching categories and GVSU is 11-2 in games started by Kees. 

° Senior pitcher Ethan Houghtaling - First-Team All-GLIAC...Tallied a 1.85 ERA and recorded six saves in 17 appearances and 34.0 innings pitched...Houghtaling tallied 33 strikeouts and yielded just seven earned runs...

° GVSU has now won 22 GLIAC Championships and 13 GLIAC Tournament titles. The Lakers sport a mark of 62-21 in GLIAC Tournament play.
