Box Score Grand Valley State dropped an 8-6 decision to Davenport Friday afternoon. The same two teams will square off Saturday in a GLIAC doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. In between games GVSU will honor former head coach Steve Lyon with the retiring of his number seven jersey and the unveiling of a commemorative cutout of a GVSU jersey on the wall in left field.
Davenport broke a 6-6 contest with single runs in the sixth and eighth innings to claim the victory.
Senior 1B
Jovan Gill put the Lakers on top with a two-run home run to right in the bottom of the first. GVSU and Davenport each scored in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but the Panthers took a 7-6 lead with one run in the top of the sixth.
Gill was 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI. Freshman catcher
Noah Brandt drove in two runs with a two-out double to left and senior 2B
Ayden VanEnkevort was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Ethan Houghtaling was tagged with the loss on the mound, yielding two runs on five hits in 3.0 innings.
Collin Bradley went the first five innings, yielding six runs, five earned, on six hits with seven strikeouts. Bradley walked four batters, nearly the total he entered the game with in 60-plus innings on the mound.
Zach Warren went the final inning on the hill.
