#6 GVSU Claims 9-4 Non-Conference Win Over Tiffin

The Lakers improve to 34-7

#6 Grand Valley State claimed a 9-4 non-conference win Tuesday afternoon over GMAC foe Tiffin at the GVSU Baseball Field. GVSU will host Davenport in a four-game series starting Friday at 3 p.m. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m., with a special ceremony retiring the number seven jersey in honor of former head coach Steve Lyon on the field between games.

Tiffin got on the board in the top of the first with back-to-back doubles and a run-scoring single to take a 2-0 lead, however, the Lakers came back in the bottom of the first with six runs on one hit, four walks and a hit by pitch. Senior 1B Will Bowen provided the big blow with a three-run triple down the right field line. 3B Caleb Estrada and LF Nolan Alvord walked with the bases loaded and senior C Nick Krstich plated a run with a sacrifice fly.

Freshman RF Josh Fleming hit a solo bomb to center in the bottom of the second and Bowen added a solo home run to right in the bottom of the third. Senior SS Evan Morrison singled home Bowen in the bottom of the sixth after Bowen singled to open the frame.

Bowen led the offensive punch, going 3-for-4 with a home run, triple, four RBI and three runs scored. Estrada was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored, while Morrison and Fleming were each 1-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.
