Men's Golf In First At GLIAC Championships

AUGUSTA, MICH. – The Grand Valley State men's golf team began postseason play today, playing the opening two rounds to at the GLIAC Tournament. GVSU dominated the 36 holes, finishing in first at -26. The Lakers will play one more round of stroke play tomorrow, looking to be one of two teams moving on to the afternoon's match play championship.

The Lakers shot rounds of 273 (-11) and 269 (-15) to finish the first day at -26. Davenport is second at three under, the only other team under par. Ferris State is third at +4, with Wayne State one stroke back of them in fourth. Rounding out the top five is SVSU, who finished at +6.
 
Manuel Cue Vargas and Bryce Wheeler ended the day in a tie for first on the individual leaderboard at eight under. Cue had rounds of 68 (-3) and 66 (-5), making five birdies in each round. Wheeler went 65 (-6) and 69 (-2) with 11 total birdies. Ryan Gallagher ended in third place, shooting a 70 (-1) and 67 (-4) to finish at five under. In a tie for fourth in Charlie Cooley, who's rounds of 70 (-1) and 69 (-2) with eight birdies, saw him finish at -3. Andrew Gwilliams was at -2 to end in a tie for sixth, making 10 birdies in his rounds of 73 (+1) and 67.
 
The Lakers will play the final round of stroke play tomorrow morning. If they advance to the match play championship, it will be played in the afternoon.
