Paige VanStee And Mike Williams Earn WBCA National Awards

PITTSBURGH, PENN. – The Women's Basketball Coaches Association announced their postseason awards earlier today, and two members of the Grand Valley State women's basketball team earned honors. Paige VanStee was named an All-American, and head coach Mike Williams was the organization's Coach of the Year.
 
Redshirt senior Paige VanStee earned the first All-American honor of Laker career, garnering first-team honors from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. VanStee is the Lakers' leading scorer at 15 points a contest, scoring in double-figures in 25 games this season. She has posted six double-doubles this season and was the Midwest Regional Tournament Most Outstanding Player for the second straight season. The First-Team All-GLIAC selection, averages 6.6 rebounds a game, and leads the team with 74 steals.
 
For the second straight season, head coach Mike Williams was named the WBCA National Coach of the Year. Williams has led the Lakers to a 34-1 record this season, their fifth consecutive season with 30 or more victories. Grand Valley State won the GLIAC regular season and tournament titles, sweeping for a fourth straight year. They then took home the Midwest Regional crown for the third time in five years, punching their ticket to the Elite Eight for the fourth time in Williams' tenure. The Lakers post a top 10 scoring offense and scoring defense, the lone team in the country to achieve those stats.
 
Grand Valley State will take on the University of Alabama in Huntsville in the Final Four on Thursday. Game time is scheduled for 8:30 in UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh.
