The Lakers arrive in Virginia Beach ranked second and third in the nation, according to the most recent rankings and polls from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Both teams trail No. 1 ranked reigning champions Pittsburg State, who swept the men's and women's indoor titles in the 2025 season.

The men's team is in the hunt for their second track and field national championship title and third track and field title overall, with their most recent win at the 2022 NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Laker ladies look to add a fourth indoor title to the trophy case after claiming the indoor track and field and cross country championship titles in 2025. A team win in Virginia Beach would be the women's seventh track and field title (indoor and outdoor).

Multi-event athlete Andrew Kraft opens the championship events at 10 a.m. as he takes on the first four events of the men's heptathlon. Kraft takes on the 60m dash first before making his way to the long jump runways at approximately 10:45. Shot put and high jump proceed the first two multi events at 11:45 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., respectively. Kraft is seeded three of 16 total heptathletes in competition.

The first non-multi events of the day begin at 2 p.m. with men's weight throw and women's long jump. Sebastian Tesch (NCAA DII No. 3), Brandon Shirck (NCAA DII No. 4) and Michael Griffey (NCAA DII No. 7) will compete for GVSU in weight throw while Alaina Diaz (NCAA DII No. 5) competes for a crown in women's long jump.

At 2:45, No. 10 Dominic Downes and No. 16 Joshua Hurt will race in the 60m hurdles prelims. The top two finishers from each heat (Q) and the next two finishers overall (q) will advance to tomorrow's finals at 3:40 p.m. Downes will race in heat three and Hurt in heat one.

Men's pole vault is next in line for the Lakers. Junior vaulter Dolan Gonzales (No. 2) leads the way for GVSU with a 5.40m / 17-8.5 mark cleared at last weekend's conference championships. Freshman duo Brock Bryant (No. 11) and Sam Paeth (No. 12) complete the lineup for the Laker men in the event.

Three preliminary events take the track next. Flynn Pumpa (No. 11) and Owen Westerkamp (No. 16) race for the men at 3:50 p.m., followed by Megan Postma (No. 17) at 4:05 p.m. Athletes that finish in the top three from each heat (Q), as well as the next three finishers overall (q), will advance to tomorrow's finals at 4:40/4:50 p.m.

Division II 400m leader Joshua Page will take the track after the mile, racing in heat one of the men's event. To advance to the finals, Page will have to be one of the top eight finishers overall.

At 4:35, Alexis Weber (No. 8) and reigning indoor champion Kaylee Diamond (No. 12) compete in women's high jump. The duo will jump alongside 16 other athletes.

The men's and women's 800m prelims take the track beginning at 5:05 p.m. Sam Allen, seeded-10th, is the sole competitor for the men while Daisy Speet (No. 13) and Addison Washler (No. 15) compete for GVSU's women. The top eight competitors in both 800m events will advance to tomorrow's finals at 5:25 p.m.

Sandwiched in between the 800m are women's weight throw and men's long jump. Shelby Ulven (No. 5) and Emily Stinson (No. 9) will both throw in flight two of the weight throw finals while Luke Jelderks (No. 4) flies solo in flight two of men's long jump.

The final five events for GVSU are the women's 200m, men's and women's 5000m and men's and women's distance medley relay (DMR).

Just a few hours after Diaz hopefully leaps her way to a podium spot in long jump, she races in heat two of the women's 200m, slated for 6 p.m. The first eight overall finishers advance to tomorrow's 200m finals at 5:55 p.m.

Koby Fraaza (No. 12), Lauren Kiley (No. 9), Abigail VanderKooi (No. 13) and Allie Arnsman (No. 14) race in the men's and women's 5000m beginning at 6:20 p.m. before the DMRs take the stage.

The men compete first with a NCAA DII No. 3 entry time of 9:38.59 set by Pumpa, Page, Allen and Westerkamp. The women are seeded-fourth in the field with an entry time of 11:27.88, recorded by Cara Newman, Diaz, Speet and Postma in mid-February.
