The Indiana native entered the competition as the highest American jumper in 2026, ranked No. 24 in the World Athletics database. All nine athletes entered competition at 2.11m (6-11) with progressions at 2.16m (7-1), 2.21m (7-3) and 2.24m (7-4.25). Kosiba cleared the first three marks in just four attempts. Tied for second as he approached the 2.24m (7-4.25) bar, Kosiba sealed his first indoor title when he soared over the bar on his second attempt.

While at Grand Valley State, Kosiba was a seven-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American and one-time NCAA Division II individual champion in the event. He set program records in both indoor and outdoor high jump and tied the NCAA Division II record of 2.30m (7-6.5) set by Jim Dilling in 2007. Kosiba was also the first selection in GVSU history to be named to the prestigious The Bowerman Watch List.
