Track & Field Sweeps Weekly GLIAC Athlete Honors

ALLENDALE, Mich. – For the first time this season, Grand Valley State track and field has swept Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Athlete of the Week honors. Joshua Page and Alaina Diaz were named Men's and Women's Track Athlete of the Week while Sebastian Tesch and Brooke Bowers swept Field Athlete of the Week honors. All four earned the honor based on their marks at this past weekend's GVSU Tune-Up.

To no one's surprise, the Men's Track Athlete of the Week honor was handed to Joshua Page. At this weekend's meet, Page ran in the 60m and 400m events. He began the day with the dash, finishing first in the heat at 6.84, effectively qualifying for the finals event. The mark already tied him for sixth in program history. Later in the day, he rewrote history in the men's 400m. With more than a four second lead in his heat, the redshirt senior crossed the finish line at 45.77 to accomplish at least four feats. Not only did he update his 400m program record and facility record (which he set while competing for Tiffin), but he also became the new NCAA DII No. 1 for the 2025-26 indoor season. The finish also made Page NCAA Division II's No. 3 All-Time, All-Conditions in the event. He did accomplish this feat last season; however, he shaved 0.01 seconds off his 45.78 time to rewrite the record as a GVSU athlete. This marks Page's second Track Athlete of the Week honor this season.

The next Track Athlete of the Week award was given to Alaina Diaz, who broke records of her own in the 200m. Shortly after ranking first in long jump with a mark of 6.06m (19-10.75), Diaz finished first in the women's 200m at 23.88, leading by more than one second. Her time improved her personal-best by 0.13 seconds and kept her ranked No. 2 in Laker history, moving her closer to claiming the program record in the event (Nicole Sreenan, 23.70 (2021)). She moves to No. 4 in NCAA Division II, solidifying her ticket to the National Championships in just two weeks.

Sebastian Tesch received his first Field Athlete of the Week honor following his NCAA Division II-leading weight throw mark this weekend. Grand Valley State athletes swept spots one through four in the event at the Tune-Up, all throwing new personal-best marks in the process. Tesch led the way, breaking his previous PR on his second throw. The Northwood transfer launched for 22.07m (72-5) to not only break the 22m barrier for the first time in his career, but to rank first in the nation at the time of the throw. Tesch has been on a tear this season, ranking second in program history from his debut as a Laker. He has updated his personal-best weight throw at five of the seven meets he has competed, averaging a best throw of 21.36m (70-1) through the season.
For the second time this season, pole vaulter Brooke Bowers has been named GLIAC Field Athlete of the Week. For those who have followed the sophomore, this comes as no surprise. It took Bowers just eight bars to tie the program record, set in 2014 by Kriston Hixson (Leland). She entered competition with a season-best mark of 4.18m (13-8.5) and personal-best indoor height of 4.20m (13-9.25). She cleared a new-best on her second attempt at her third height of competition – 4.25m (13-11.25). The only one still in competition, the sophomore attempted to tie the GVSU program record set in 2014. On her second attempt, she soared over the 4.35m (14-3.25) bar, becoming the new No. 1 in DII and program record holder at once.
