Three Lakers Lead NCAA Division II After Track & Field Senior Day Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 1 and No. 3 ranked Grand Valley State men's and women's track and field teams closed out the indoor regular season at today's GVSU Tune-Up. Three new NCAA Division II leads were claimed, 20 NCAA Division II provisional marks were met and 45 personal-best marks were recorded by GVSU athletes.

Final Results

The day began with massive throws in women's weight throw. Emily Stinson led the way with a 19.28m (63-3.25) that landed her the No. 7 spot in NCAA Division II and eighth-best throw of all time in program history. Kennedy Jackson and Sofiabella Amirante threw personal-bests of their own in the event. Jackson recorded the new No. 19 throw in DII with a mark of 18.14m (59-6.25) and Amirante threw for 17.78m (58-4), ranking 27th in the division.

The men followed suit, with all four throwing personal-bests to land in the top-15 of NCAA Division II rankings. Sebastian Tesch led the competition, throwing for a whopping 22.07m (72-5) to become the new NCAA No. 1. Brandon Schirck was close behind with a weight throw of 21.43m (70-3.75), just ahead of Michael Griffey's 20.94m (68-8.5); the duo ranks No. 4 and No. 7 in DII. Lucas Lesher rounded out the quad with a personal-best 20.10m (65-11.5) weight throw, ranking No. 14 among Division II athletes.

Shot put was no cake walk, either. Avery Lahti, Stinson and Amirante threw new bests, too. Lahti led the women, throwing for 14.62m (47-11.75) to rank No. 16 in Division II (as a reminder, the top 18 athletes in an individual event punch their tickets to the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships). Stinson shot put for 14.07m (46-2) to rank No. 26 and Amirante became the new No. 32 with a throw of 13.86m (45-5.75).

Prentice Gardner Jr. had a massive day. The sophomore began the day with long jump, leading the competition with a personal-best 6.93m (22-9) landing on his second attempt. He continued to win today, as he jumped for a personal-best 14.03m (46-0.5) in triple jump to complete his sweep in men's horizontal jumps.

Brooke Bowers shined in pole vault, per usual, taking just eight bars to tie Kriston Hixson's program record in the event. Bowers entered competition with a season-best mark of 4.18m (13-8.5) and personal-best indoor height of 4.20m (13-9.25). She cleared a new-best on her second attempt at her third height of competition – 4.25m (13-11.25). The only one still in competition, the sophomore attempted to tie the GVSU program record set in 2014. On her second attempt, she soared over the 4.35m (14-3.25) bar, becoming the new No. 1 in DII and program record holder at once.

Track events impressed at today's Tune-Up, too, as 11 GVSU all-time top 10 marks were updated and four times landed in the top 15 of NCAA DII rankings.

Adalyn Liang started the day off with a bang, crossing the 60m finish line at 7.61 to qualify for the finals round and tie for the eighth-best finish in program history. Gianni Harris also updated her time in the event, moving up the record book with a finish at 7.56 in the finals round to rank fifth all-time at GVSU.

Joshua Page and Sam Mitas followed suit in the dash, finishing at 6.84 and 6.85 to tie for sixth and ninth all-time, respectively.

Destini Dorkins, once again, shined in the 60m hurdles. After qualifying for the finals with a first-place finish at 8.79, she shaved 0.06 seconds off her initial finish to win the event at 8.73. She remains No. 7 in GVSU history but moves up to No. 39 in Division II.

Parker Campbell etched his name in 60m hurdles history, too. The freshman crossed the finish line first in the preliminary event at 8.18 to move on to the finals. He won the finals round with a personal-best finish at 8.06 to rank eighth in program history and No. 33 in Division II.

Six season-or-personal-bests were recorded in the 200m, including one by none other than Alaina Diaz. The junior updated her PR yet again, cruising through the 200m event in 23.88. The finish keeps her as GVSU's No. 2 in the event and moves her up to No. 4 in NCAA DII, solidifying her ticket to the National Championships.

The 400m was where history was, quite literally, rewritten. With more than a four second lead, Joshua Page crossed the finish line at 45.77 to accomplish several feats. Not only did he update his 400m program record and Kelly Family Sports Center record (which he set while competing for Tiffin), but he also became the new NCAA DII No. 1 for the 2025-26 indoor season. The finish also made Page NCAA Division II's No. 3 All-Time, All-Conditions in the event. He did claim this honor last season; however, he shaved 0.01 seconds off his 45.78 time to rewrite the record as a GVSU athlete.

Nine other best times were achieved in the 400m, including Desmond Chapa's finish at 47.91, ranking him No. 6 in program history and No. 39 in DII.

Daisy Speet and Sam Allen's new records in the 800m all-but-solidified their National Championships chances. Speet was the first to race, finishing the event at a personal-best 2:08.80 to become the new No. 11 in DII and rank fifth in program history. Allen proceeded, shaving nearly one second off his previous PR with a finish at 1:48.93, ranking No. 8 in DII and second in GVSU history.

Across the 1 mile and 3000m events, 15 athletes finished at season-best or personal-best times. Abigail VanderKooi was the first to do so, crossing the 1 mile finish line at a personal-best 4:55.43 to place first in the event. Drennan Akins also finished first in the one mile, crossing the finish line at 4:15.05. Seniors Koby Fraaza (8:15.10) and Maria Widmann (9:59.08) recorded season-best finishes and took the crown in the men's and women's 3000m invites.

Although the regular season has come to an end, the Lakers are back in action next weekend as they take on the 2026 GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The two-day competition is hosted by Saginaw Valley State at the Ryder Center located in University Center, Mich. More information will be available on gvsulakers.com this week.
