Women's Basketball Leads Wire-To-Wire In Victory At Parkside

KENOSHA, WIS. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team continued their week on the road, traveling to face Parkside on Thursday evening. The Lakers took the lead early on and never relinquished it, going wire-to-wire for the 66-47 victory. The win moves them to 17-0 this season, setting a new program record for best start to a season.

The Lakers jumped out to a 6-0 lead three minutes into the game. Parkside got back within two points off a 10-6 run, making it 12-10 GVSU. The Lakers would answer right back with the final eight points of the quarter, three each from MacKenzie Bisballe and Paige VanStee, then Anayya Davis beat the buzzer, making it 20-10 after the first period.

After the Rangers got back within six points, GVSU went on a 14-2 run, highlighted by threes from Nicole Kamin and Lauren Slagle, pushing their lead up to 34-16. Parkside got two points to end the quarter, trailing by 16 at the break.

Grand Valley State saw their lead cut in half midway through the third quarter, as the Rangers made it 40-32. Once again, the Lakers had an answer, this time scoring nine consecutive points to push their lead up to 17 points. GVSU held their double-digit lead the rest of the way, up 54-39 at the third quarter break.

Much like the previous two quarters, Parkside were able to chip away at the lead, getting within 11 points halfway through the final period. From there, the Laker defense pitched a shutout over the final five minutes, alongside an 8-0 GVSU run, to eliminate any possible Parkside comeback.

In just 13 minutes of action, MacKenzie Bisballe recorded a game-high 17 points, shooting 8-12 from the floor. Paige VanStee posted another double-double, notching 13 points and 10 boards, adding three steals. Ava Scanlon tallied 10 points and four rebounds, while Nicole Kamin had nine points, nine assists, and six rebounds. Avery Lay pulled down six rebounds and Lexi Plitzuweit had five.
