CHICAGO, ILL. – Halfway through the GLIAC schedule, the Grand Valley State women's basketball team stayed unbeaten, taking down Roosevelt on the road, 75-37. GVSU is now 18-0 overall and 10-0 in the conference, two games up on everyone else in the league.
GVSU got out to a 6-0 start to the game, all six coming from
Paige VanStee. After Roosevelt cut the lead to three,
Anayya Davis drilled one from deep to bring it to 12-6. RU brought it back within four points, but GVSU ended the quarter on an 9-2 run to lead 21-10 after 10 minutes.
Molly Anderson began the second period with a triple, making the score 24-10. A 5-2 Roosevelt run brought it to 26-15, but once again, the Lakers had a strong end to the quarter, finishing on a 7-2 run, up 33-17 at the break.
A three from
Lexi Plitzuweit got the scoring going in the second half, then VanStee got a pass from Plitzuweit for a layup. The layup gave her 1,000 points for her career, becoming the 31
st player in program history to hit that mark. Those five points were the start of a 21-3 GVSU run, which made the score 54-20. The lead stayed above 30 points the remainder of the quarter, as the Lakers hit five three-pointers in the quarter, leading 61-26 heading to the fourth.
An 8-0 Laker run pushed the lead above 40 points at 69-26. The advantage was over 40 for majority of the quarter before a couple late Roosevelt points made it a 38-point GVSU victory.
In addition to scoring her 1,000
th career point,
Paige VanStee scored a game-high 18 points, shooting 8-14 from the floor, adding seven boards and three assists.
Ava Scanlon tallied 10 points and six rebounds, with
Lexi Plitzuweit recording nine points, five assists, and four rebounds.
Molly Anderson contributed eight points and four boards, while
Anayya Davis scored seven points. The Laker defense held Roosevelt to a season-low 37 points, as they shot just 22% from the field.
