ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's golf team kicked off their season this morning, hosting the Folds of Honor Challenge. After day one of the three day event, the Lakers are in second place, with two golfers in the top 10.
Results
Reigning champion Findlay leads the tournament, ending the day at one under. The Lakers sit nine strokes back of the Oilers at eight over par. There is a three-way tie for third at 14 over, with West Texas A&M, Odessa, and UIndy all knotted up after the opening day.
Freshman
June Hsiao got her collegiate career off to a strong start, ending round one in third place. She carded a 70 (-1), making four birdies and is two strokes back of first.
Charlotte Goersch is locked in a tie for seventh at one over, following her two-birdie round of 72. Following her round of 74 (+3) with two birdies, senior
Rachael Krieger is tied for 13
th. In a tie for 19
th is
Lea Stotz, who made three birdies in her round of 76 (+5).
Heida Rafnsdottir carded a 78 (+7) with one birdie to end in a tie for 25
th.
Three individuals were also competing for the Lakers.
Skyler Tierney shot a 79 (+8), making four birdies to tie for 29
th.
Evelyn Park is tied for 32
nd following her round of 80 (+9) with one birdie.
Lorena Saquicoray is tied for 48
th at +18, as she shot an 89 on day one.
The Lakers will tee off in the afternoon for round two. The first Laker woman goes off at 1:10.
