Jayden Dentler Interview

#8 Grand Valley State claimed a 5-1 GLIAC Tournament opening round win over Saginaw Valley State Thursday. GVSU improves to 40-10 on the year and will play the winner of the Wayne State-Parkside game Friday at 7 p.m. The Lakers improve to 12-4 all-time at Jackson Field in Lansing, Michigan and are 19-1 in the last 20 games. GVSU's 40 wins marks the eighth time in program history that they have won 40 games, the first time since 2012.

Senior RHP Jayden Dentler yielded just one run on seven hits with four strikeouts in 8.0 innings of work. SVSU put runners on second and third with one out in the top of the third, but Dentler was able to get an infield fly and strikeout to get out of the inning. The Laker offense then went to work in the bottom half of the frame with five runs on three hits. RF Ryan Stimac opened the inning with a walk and then scored the first run of the game on 3B Caleb Estrada's double to left center. SS Evan Morrison walked and LF Ryan Dykstra singled home Estrada. 1B Jovan Gill tripled home Morrison and Dykstra, followed by a run scoring groundout by C Brendan Guciardo. Zach Warren got the final three outs on the hill for the Lakers.
