Women's Lacrosse Ends Regular Season With Big Road Victory

SAGINAW, MICH. – The GVSU women's lacrosse team finished off the regular season with a convincing 23-1 victory at SVSU. The win moves them to 13-3 and they end at 8-0 in GLIAC play heading into next weekend's conference tournament.
 
The Lakers dominated from the opening draw, outscoring the Cardinals 10-0 in the first quarter. Ashleigh Rothe had the first goal, then added six assists throughout the period. Gracie Bancroft scored three times in the quarter, Ainsley Shilling and Zoe Ziegler both tallied two goals, with Leah Leonard Grace Maddox scoring once.
 
GVSU only scored three times in the second quarter, getting goals from Bancroft, Rothe, and Mara Misiurewicz to lead 13-0 at the half.
 
In the third period, Bancroft tallied her fifth goal to begin the scoring. That was followed by goals from Shilling, Ziegler, Ella Boose, Rothe, Emerson Holthouser, and Leonard to lead 20-0 after 45 minutes.
 
Saginaw Valley finally got on the board to begin the fourth quarter, scoring on a free-position attempt. The Lakers responded with the final three goals of the period, getting scores from Boose, Indira Marker, and Ella Manfred.
 
Gracie Bancroft scored a career-high five goals, adding two assists. Ashleigh Rothe totaled nine points, scoring three goals and dishing out six assists. Ainsley Shilling and Zoe Ziegler also tallied hat tricks, with Ziegler having three assists and Shilling had two. Ella Boose and Leah Leonard each scored twice. Indira Marker, Mara Misiurewicz, Ella Manfred, Grace Maddox, and Emerson Holthouser all recorded one goal. Boose, Marker, Manfred, Kendra Swope, Jillian Bingman, and Isabella De La Cerda all had one assist.
 
The Lakers won the draw control battle 19-8. Rothe picked up five, going over 200 for her career, with Shilling and Boose each grabbing four and Kayleigh Sandell recorded three. GVSU allowed just five shots today, as both Kaylyn Cater and Sarah Krause both had a save. Leonard caused three turnovers and four other players caused two each. Leonard also had a team-high four groundballs.
 
Up Next
The Lakers begin postseason play next weekend with the GLIAC Tournament. GVSU is the one seed and will host the event, starting on Friday with the semifinals.
