Lacrosse Clinches GLIAC Regular Season Championship

ALLENDALE, MICH. – Despite a nearly one hour lightning delay, the GVSU women's lacrosse team took care of business Friday night against Davenport, claiming a 17-6 victory. The win clinched the outright GLIAC regular season title for the Lakers, the 12th in program history.
 

Ashleigh Rothe got the scoring started, taking a pass from Gracie Bancroft and finding the back of the net. DU got on the board to tie the game at one. GVSU went back in front with a goal from Ella Boose. The Panthers scored the final two goals of the period, leading 3-2 after 15 minutes.
 
A 4-0 Laker run began the second quarter, putting them up 6-3. Zoe Ziegler started the run, followed by goals from Rothe, Gracie Bancroft, and Shilling. After a Davenport goal, the Lakers went on another 4-0 run. This run featured two scores from Jillian Bingman, and one each from Shilling and Rothe, putting the Lakers up 10-4 at the break.
 
The dominance from the Lakers carried over into the second half, with GVSU outscoring the Panthers 5-0 in the third quarter. Scoring for Grand Valley were Ziegler twice, Grace Maddox twice, and Rothe once.
 
In the fourth quarter, the two teams each scored twice, as Bancroft and Mara Misiurewicz netted goals for GVSU.
 
Appearing in her program record 76th career game, Ashleigh Rothe led the offense with four goals and two assists. Zoe Ziegler also totaled six points on three goals and three assists. The six points put her over 100 career points. Ainsley Shilling, Jillian Bingman, Gracie Bancroft, and Grace Maddox all scored twice. Tallying one goal each were Ella Boose and Mara Misiurewicz. Kendra Swope had two assists, with Bingman, Bancroft, Boose, and Ella Manfred getting one.
 
Kaylyn Cater got the win in the cage and Sarah Krause recorded four saves as well. Elora Ferrie caused two turnovers, with Ashleigh Rothe causing two. Ferrie, Rothe, Bingman, and Bancroft all picked up two groundballs. The Lakers won the draw control battle 18-8, led by Boose gathering seven. Rothe and Kylie Waeghe both grabbed three.
