Men's Golf In First After Opening Day At GLIAC Championships

BATTLE CREEK, MICH. – The GVSU men's golf team kicked off postseason play today, playing round one of the GLIAC Tournament. After the first 18 holes, the Lakers are in the overall lead, with two golfers atop the leaderboard.

The Lakers shot a 283 (-5) over the first 18 holes, holding a one stroke lead at the end of the day. Wayne State is second at four under, followed by Roosevelt in third, shooting one under. SVSU is at even par in fourth, with Davenport, Parkside, and Ferris State all tied at one over in fifth.
 
Manuel Cue Vargas is alone atop the individual leaderboard, carding a round of 68 (-4), sinking seven birdies. Bryce Wheeler is tied for second, posting a 69 (-3) with four birdies. After his round of 72 (E), making two birdies, Drew Coble is tied for 12th. Murphy Kehoe shot a 74 (+2) with three birdies to end the day tied for 25th. In a tie for 40th is Charlie Cooley, who shot a 77 (+5) with three birdies.
 
The Lakers will play the second round tomorrow. If they are one of the top four teams after that round, they will advance to the afternoon's medal match play semifinals.
