LAKELAND, Fla. – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team concluded their trip to Florida with a 4-3 win over #14 Florida Southern Tuesday (March 4). The Lakers improve to 7-2 on the season.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Lucas Gonzalez and Victor Loped earned a 6-4 win at the top doubles position.
Stephen Claassen and
Lawrence Ivanov posted a dominant 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Chimo Minguez and
Denys Zamaraiev dropped a tough 4-6 decision at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play,
Denys Zamaraiev claimed a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win at the top singles position.
Jorge Ruiz earned a 6-2, 6-4 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
Ignasi Garros clinched the win with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 three-set win at No.6 singles.
Victor Lopes dropped a tough 4-6, 6-4, 3-6 three-set decision at No. 2 singles.
Lucas Gonzalez lost a tough 2-6, 3-6 decision at No. 3 singles.
Patricio Sepulveda dropped a tough 2-6, 6-1, 3-6 three-set decision at No. 5 singles.
The Laker men will return home and begin GLIAC play on Friday, March 21
st against Roosevelt. First serve is set for 12:00 PM at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club in Grandville, Michigan.
