#6 Grand Valley State swept the GLIAC-opening doubleheader at Parkside today, winning game one 12-3 and game two 13-4. The Lakers, now 18-4 overall and 2-0 in GLIAC action, will play a single 9-inning contest at Parkside Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. (ET). GVSU scored 25 runs on 29 hits, including 11 extra-base hits, while Parkside managed just seven runs on 15 hits in the doubleheader. Laker pitchers struck out 18 batters and walked just two.

Game 1 – Grand Valley State hit five home runs and scored in five of seven at bats en route to a 12-3 GLIAC opening win. DH
Jonas Gulbrandsen opened the scoring with a 2-run home with two outs in the top of the first. RF
Ryan Stimac added a solo bomb in the top of the second to left center and C
Brendan Guciardo added a solo home run to left in the fourth. 1B
Jovan Gill pushed two across with a double to right center to up the Laker lead to 6-0 in the top of the fifth. Parkside scored two in the bottom of the fifth, but GVSU exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth on two, 3-run home runs. CF
Ayden VanEnkevort hit a 3-run home run to left center and Gill then added another 3-run home run.
Senior RHP
Jayden Dentler was sensational against a Parkside Ranger team that came into the game hitting over .400 as a team. Dentler completed a 7-inning outing to improve to 5-0 on the year. He yielded three runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.Â
Gill, the GLIAC Player of the Week last week, continued his hot hitting going 3-3 with five RBI, two runs scored, a 2-run double and a 3-run home run. VanEnkevort went 3-4 with three RBI, a 3-run home run and two runs scored, while SS
Evan Morrison and LF
Ryan Dykstra each provided two hits. Gulbrandsen, Guciardo and Stimac each provided solo home runs.Â

Game 2
The Lakers scored in six at bats and collected 14 hits, while Laker pitching allowed just four runs on seven hits. VanEnkevort singled to right in the bottom of the second to plate Stimac who had reached first on an error and went to third on a
Zach Warren single. Gulbrandsen upped the Laker lead to 2-0 when Gulbrandsen scored Dykstra from third on a ground out in the top of the third.
Gill doubled home Morrison and Dykstra in the top of the fifth and Gulbrandsen plated Gill, who stole third, with a sac fly to center.

Caleb Estrada walked and advanced to second on a Stimac bunt. Warren advanced Estrada and Stimac with a sac bunt and VanEnkevort was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Morrison greeted the new pitcher with a first-pitch grand slam over the right field wall to give the Lakers a 9-1 lead.
Gulbrandsen doubled to lead off the seventh and Guciardo singles, followed by an Estrada single. Guciardo scored on a wild pitch to give the Lakers an 11-1 lead. Â
Leading 11-4 heading into the top of the ninth Gulbrandsen hit his second home run of the day, a solo shot that travelled 474 feet, followed by a Warren RBI single to center that scored Guciardo who walked and went to second on a groundout.Â
Sophomore
Owen Avery picked up his third consecutive win in as many starts, yielding one run on two hits with six strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. Avery has struck out 26 batters and walked just two in his last 21 innings on the mound. Senior
Colby Phipps picked up the save, yielding three runs on five hits with five strikeouts in 3.0 inning of relief.Â
Morrison, who went 1-5 with two runs and four RBI, provided the big blow with a grand slam,  while Gulbrandsen was 3-4 with two runs and two RBI. Gill was 2-5 with two RBI and a double. Guciardo, Warren and VanEnkevort each collected two hits and drove in a run.Â
