CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The GVSU men's golf team teed off in their second tournament of the spring, competing in the Ralph Hargett Memorial. After the opening day, the Lakers are in first place, four strokes up on the competition.
Results
GVSU shot rounds of 282 and 280, ending the day at -14. USC Beaufort is second, four strokes back at -10, followed by host Wingate in third, ending the day at nine under. In fourth is Lenoir-Rhyne, shooting -7, then Anderson is fifth at four under.
Leading the way for the Lakers are
Drew Coble and
Manuel Cue Vargas, both tied for third at five under. Coble carded rounds of 69 (-3) and 70 (-2) with 10 birdies, while Cue shot a 72 (E) and 67 (-5), sinking 10 birdies.
Ryan Gallagher is tied for 19
th at even par, carding rounds of 74 (+2) and 70 (-2), with five birdies.
Charlie Cooley and
Bryce Wheeler are at one over, in a tie for 24
th. Cooley made three birdies in his rounds of 69 (-3) and 76 (+4). Wheeler had rounds of 72 (E) and 73 (+1) with four birdies.
The Lakers play the final round of the tournament tomorrow, looking to get their first win of the spring.
