Grand Valley State (5-2) claimed a 31-8 victory over #5 Indianapolis (5-3) Friday (Feb. 28) afternoon at New Palestine high school. The Lakers pounded out 21 hits, including six doubles and a home run, reached base 11 times via walks and were hit by a pitch seven times. The 31 runs scored ranks second all-time in a single game to the 36 runs scored vs. Concordia-Ann Arbor on April 10, 1998. The 31 runs scored are the most all-time versus a DII opponent. GVSU will play one game on Saturday (Mar. 1) vs. Indianapolis at New Palestine high school. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. Sunday's doubleheader will begin at 12 noon.
The Lakers scored four runs in the top of the first on three hits, all of which were doubles. LF

Caleb Estrada all doubled, while two runs scored on a Greyhound error. Indianapolis added three runs of their own in the bottom of the first on three doubles. UIndy tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the second, but the Lakers pushed across two runs in the top of the third. RF

Brendan Guciardo doubled. Estrada singled home Gulbrandsen and Guciardo later scored on a wild pitch.
GVSU added two more runs in the top of the fourth as Gill and Guciardo each drove in a run. Indianapolis tied the game with four runs on three hits and a Laker error in the bottom of the fourth.
The Lakers regained the lead with four runs in the top of the sixth. Dykstra doubled to open the top of the sixth, followed by a Gill fielder's choice RBI. Gulbrandsen hit his fourth home run of the year, this a 2-run shot to center. DH
Zach Warren singled home Guciardo who singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch.

Evan Morrison reached on an error to open the seventh and advanced to third, followed by a Dykstra RBI groundout.
GVSU added 9 runs in the top of the eighth on five hits. Estrada walked to open the inning and VanEnkevort reached via an error for the second time. Warren advanced both runners with fly out to right and 2B
Cole Mason drove in a pair with a single to center. Morrison walked and Dykstra singled home Mason. Gulbrandsen and Guciardo were both hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Estrada drove in two more to give the Lakers a 20-8 lead. VanEnkevort closed the 9-run, eighth inning with a 2-run single to left to up the Laker lead to 22-8.
The hit and run parade continued with nine more runs in the top of the ninth on seven hits. Morrison walked for the fourth time in the game. Dykstra was hit by a pitch and Gill singled to right to plate Morrison. Gulbrandsen followed with an RBI single to left that scored Dykstra. Guciardo loaded the bases with an infield single and Estrada drove in his fifth run of the day with a single. Pinch hitter

Caden Thelen recorded the first hit of his career, a single to right that drove in a run to up the Laker lead to 31-8.
Colby Phipps picked up the win in relief, striking out three with just one walk in 3.1 innings pitched.
Will Goebel struck out five and yielded just one hit in 2.0 IP. GVSU yielded UIndy just one hit over the final five innings
Morrison was 1-3 with five runs scored and reached base six times, four via walk and one hit by pitch. Dykstra was 4-6 with four runs scored, four RBI and three doubles, while Gill was 2-6 with five runs scored and four RBI. Gulbrandsen was 2-4 with four runs, three RBI and a home run, his fourth of the year. Guciardo was 4-6 with five runs and an RBI, while Estrada was 4-6 with four runs and five RBI. VanEnkevort was 1-6 with four RBI and Mason was 1-6 with two runs scored and two RBI.
