Grand Valley State (4-2) split a non-conference twinbill at Drury Monday (Feb. 24) afternoon. Drury claimed game one in comeback fashion 6-5, but the Lakers claimed game two 9-4 and took the weekend series 3-1. Grand Valley State will be at Indianapolis for a four-game series beginning Friday (Feb. 28) at 2 p.m.

Grand Valley State led from start to finish, scoring a single run in the top of the second, two in the third and four more in the fourth to build a 7-0 lead. Sophomore catcher

The Lakers broke the game open with four runs in the top of the fourth. VanEnkevort walked and Krstich followed with a home run to left. Dykstra singled with one out and Gill hit a home run to right to give GVSU a 7-0 lead.Â

Drury scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, but GVSU pushed two across in the top of the sixth. Gill walked and Gulbrandsen followed with a bomb over the wall in left center, his third home run in the series.Â

Freshman
Sebastian Talaga (1-0) picked up the win in relief, yielding four runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
Allan Thorington was awarded the save, giving up just one hit through the final 2.1 innings of work.Â

Gill was 3-3 with two runs scored and four RBI, while Krstich was 2-4 with three RBI and one run scored. Gulbrandsen was 1-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Dykstra was 2-4 with two runs scored.Â

GVSU built a 5-1 lead, but three unearned runs in the final two innings allowed the Panthers to pull out the 6-5 win in walk-off fashion.Â

Brendan Guciardo doubled home Gulbrandsen who opened the inning with a single to left.Â

GVSU added three runs in the top of the third on three hits. Gill plated one run with a sac fly, Gulbrandsen tallied an RBI single to center and Guciardo drove home a run with a single to right. Morrison produced a run on his own in the fifth with a single to center, stole second, advanced on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch to give GVSU a 5-1 lead.Â

Collin Bradley was not involved in the decision despite a quality start. Bradley yielded four runs, one of which was earned, on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks.Â
