GVSU Baseball Set To Open 2025 Campaign Friday Vs. Findlay

Grand Valley State will open the 2025 season Friday, February 14 versus Findlay at Xavier University's Hayden Field in Cincinnati, Ohio. Game one will have a first pitch of 1 p.m., while game two will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. GVSU is coming off a GLIAC Tournament Championship in 2024 and a berth in the NCAA Midwest Regional, while Findlay was 28-22 a year ago overall and 21-10 in GMAC action.

Second-year coach Jordan Keur will look to build on a first year in which he guided the Lakers to their first GLIAC Tournament title and NCAA berth since 2016. GVSU won four consecutive games to end the regular season and then swept through the GLIAC Tournament with a 4-0 mark. He will use a mixture of returnees that made a significant impact in 2025, joined by a group of 17 newcomers that will be relied on to produce in all facets of the game.

Keur will need the likes of four returning All-GLIAC position players to lead the way. Senior Jonas Gulbrandsen, who hit .332 with 71 hits, 43 RBI, 10 home runs, 14 doubles and 40 runs, will see action at right field and first base. Senior Ryan Dykstra will patrol left field again after hitting .319 with 66 hits, a team-high 61 RBI, six home runs, 11 doubles and 35 runs scored. Senior catcher Brendan Guciardo was stellar behind the dish and hit .305 with 50 hits, 29 RBI, four home runs, 13 doubles and 32 runs scored. Junior Ayden VanEnkevort will move center field after hitting .287 with 41 hits, 28 RBI, seven doubles and 24 runs scored. Sophomore Zach Warren and newcomers Evan Morrison, Caleb Estrada and Jovan Gill are expected to make an impact.

LHP Mike Morawski was an all-region and All-GLIAC performers as a sophomore after posting a record of 7-4 with a 3.31 ERA I 73.1 innings. Keur will also rely on Will Goebel, Al Thorington, Collin Bradley, Owen Avery and Colton King to produce on the mound. Newcomers Jayden Dentler, and Ethan Houghtaling, a pair of Western Michigan transfers, will be expected to make an impact in starting roles.

NCBWA Preseason All-Region
