ALLENDALE, Mich. – Laker track and field impressed yet again on the final day of their weekend road trip. Day two saw Grand Valley State athletes compete at the Midwest Classic (Indianapolis, Ind.), the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational (South Bend, Ind.) and the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational (Louisville, Ky.). The squads recorded four event wins and 26 top 10 finishes throughout the day.

Midwest Classic – Indianapolis, Ind.
Grand Valley competed in seven events on the second day of the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Indiana. There was one event win and seven top 10 individual event finishes.
In the men's 60m hurdles finals,
Joshua Hurt and
Ethan Smith both had podium finishes. Hurt finished second at 8.15, Smith finished third at 8.39.
Impressive finishes were recorded in the 60m finals for both men and women.
Taylor Kyle started her day in Indy with a 7.74 fifth place finish.
Myles Rhodes and
Michael McNeil were the next to place in the top 10, earning second and fifth place finishes at 6.88 and 7.05, respectively.
The squads didn't compete again until the 400m.
Claire Neumann (8, 57.07),
Catherine Guckenberger (13, 57.91) and
Ashtyn Gluck (19, 59.09) recorded top 20 finishes for the Lakers.
Zach Pray was the only Laker to run in the 400m. He won his heat with a 49.01 finish time, ranking fourth overall.
Competition at the Midwest Classic ended with 4x400 relays. The women kicked things off; Guckenberger, Neumann, Gluck and
Alaina Diaz represented the Lakers. The squad finished fourth of eight teams with a time of 3:51.96. Pray, McNeil,
Desmond Chapa and Rhodes finished first in the 4x400 relay ahead of Purdue, Ashland and Butler. Their 3:12.99 time is the eighth fastest in GVSU indoor history.
Notre Dame Meyo Invitational – South Bend, Ind.
GVSU closed out their time in South Bend in true Laker fashion, recording six personal-bests, two season-bests and one event win.
Scott Spaanstra and Samuel Allen kicked things off for the Lakers in the men's 800m open. Spaanstra crossed the finish line second at a season-best 1:50.10 – just 0.02 seconds away from his personal-best. Allen, a freshman, finished alongside the senior, crossing the finish line third. His personal-best 1:50.11 time ranks him third in GVSU history, just behind Spaanstra.
Quinton Bauer also competed in the 800m, placing 15
th overall with a time of 1:54.09.
The women's 800m featured
Addison Washler and
Megan Postma. Washler finished first in her heat and overall, crossing the finish line at 2:10.89. Postma recorded a 2:14.56 finish that ranked her 15
th overall.
Owen Westerkamp was the lone Laker in the men's 1 mile, but he made sure to show out. The freshman ran yet another personal-best, finishing third at 4:04.25.
Allie Arnsman also ran a personal-best in the women's 1 mile, crossing the finish line at 4:56.47.
Grand Valley closed out their time at Notre Dame with 3000m events. All four Lakers that competed ran a season-best or personal-best, earned a spot in the record book and ranked top 10 in NCAA Division II.
Lauren Kiley's sixth place, 9:13.90 finish was not only a personal-best, but also moved her to the second fastest time in GVSU history.
Natalie Graber, GVSU's current 3k record holder, finished ninth at 9:17.37.
Maria Mitchell finished at a personal-best 9:29.05 time, ranking her 10
th in Grand Valley's record book. Kiley, Graber and Mitchell's times rank them first, second and eighth in Divison II.
Koby Fraaza was the only individual to represent Grand Valley in the men's 3000m but did so in impressive fashion. He finished sixth, shaving nearly 10 seconds off his previous personal-best time. Fraaza's 7:55.83 time places him at number two in Division II and in Grand Valley history.
PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational – Louisville, Ky.
Day two of the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational saw three personal-bests and two individual event wins.
Brooke Bowers was one of two Lakers to record an event win on day two in Louisville. The freshman recorded a height of 4.07m (13-4.25) in pole vault. The height not only won her first in the event, but also established a new personal-best, ranks as the sixth-best in GVSU history and current seventh-best in Division II.
Eli Kosiba grabbed the other event win in high jump, clearing 2.24m (7-4.25). After clearing 2.18m (7-2) in one attempt, he moved forward to 2.24m, which he also cleared on his first attempt. The only athlete left, he decided to attempt to break his personal-best and NCAA DII record of 2.30m (7-6.5). Although he was unable to clear the height, he still won the event with an impressive 2.24m jump.
Jaivon Harrison placed second in the event, clearing 2.15m (7-0.50) in one attempt).
Marcus Gelpi and
Jonathan Rankins-James tied for fourth at 2.15m (7-0.50).
Mason Floria, Grand Valley's only multi-event athlete, entered the day with 2699 points in the heptathlon. Day two presented Floria with the men's hep 1000m and men's hep pole vault. He ran a 3:03.72 1000m time to place seventh and amass 628 points. In pole vault, the junior cleared a height of 4.25m (13-11.25), ranking fourth for 688 points. At the end of day two, Floria totaled a personal-best 4887 points to place third in the heptathlon and rank third in GVSU history.
The women's shot put saw four Lakers throw.
Erika Beistle and
Mackenzie Bohrer led the squad with 16.22m (53-2.75) and 14.66m (48-1.25) throws, ranking them fourth and eighth. Margaret Stevenson threw for a season-best 13.52m (44-4.25), ranking 13
th at the meet and 28
th in Division II.
Kennedy Jackson rounded out the day with a personal-best 13.07m (42-10.75) throw. She placed 16
th in the event and ranks 55
th in Division II.
Gerald Capaccio and
Andrew Berryhill competed in the men's shot put for GVSU. They threw for 15.21m (49-11) and 15.03m (49-3.75) to place eighth and ninth, respectively.
