#21 Grand Valley State will host Roosevelt in the regular season finale. The Lakers are 6-3 overall and 4-2 in league action, while the Roosevelt Lakers are 1-5 in GLIAC action and 2-7 overall. 
 
THE SERIES
Grand Valley State claimed the only meeting between the programs a year ago in Chicago by a 34-21 score.

GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week
Grand Valley State sophomore linebacker Torian Wyatt played a key role in the Lakers' 18-15 victory over Michigan Tech Saturday before a crowd of 11,394 at Lubbers Stadium. Wyatt recorded a career-high nine tackles, 2.0 QB sacks (-12), 2.5 tackles for loss (-13), forced a safety, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. The Laker defense held Michigan Tech 20 points and over 100 yards below their season averages. Wyatt has 41 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 QB sacks on the year.

GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week
Grand Valley State senior punter, Trace Hrgich, was a key performer in the Lakers' 18-15 victory over Michigan Tech Saturday before a crowd of 11,394. Hrgich punted six times with an average of 43.7 yards, dropped three inside the 20 yard line and had a long of 57 yards. Following a punt, Michigan Tech's average starting position was the 20 yard line in a game where field position was a big part of the game. Following his 57-yard punt that pinned the Huskies at the 10 yard line, GVSU recorded a safety to take an 8-0 lead in the second quarter. Hrgich leads the GLIAC and ranks second nationally in punting with a 45.8 average, while dropping 14 inside the 20 yard. In addition, he has recorded a 50-yard punt in nine games.  

• Grand Valley State is under the direction of third-year head football coach Scott Wooster. Wooster has led the Lakers to a 28-7 mark, including two NCAA Division II playoff appearances and a GLIAC title his first two years.

  • The GVSU defense ranks second in the country in redzone defense. Opponents have scored on 15-of-27 (55.0) opportunities, including just 10 TDs in nine games.  

•  The Laker offense ranks second in the GLIAC, converting 27-of-32 opportunities (84.3) inside the redzone, 23 of which have been TDs.

• Senior punter Trace Hrgich leads the GLIAC and is second in the country, averaging 45.8 yards per punt. He has punted 30 times, with nine of 50 yards or more and 14 inside the 20 yard line.

• The Laker defense ranks 15th in the country in tackles for loss with 67 for -255 yards.

• The Laker defense leads the GLIAC and ranks 30th in the country in first down defense, yielding 163 through nine games (18.2). 

• Senior LB Anthony Cardamone concluded his career with 242 tackles, 34.0 tackles for loss and 18.5 QB sacks.
 
• RS Freshman QB Andrew Schuster leads the GLIAC in passing yards (2,160), passing yards per game (240.0 ypg) and passing TDs (18). 

Kellen Reed has  2,316 all-purpose yards in his career. He has 1,315 kickoff return yards, 823 receiving yards and 178 rushing yards.

• Senior RB Syone Usma-Harper enters today's game with 880 career rushing yards.

• Junior TE Evan Furtney has 14 receptions for 199 yards and one TD this season.

• Senior WR Griffin Shinrock hauled in his first career TD last week vs. Michigan Tech. Shinrock has seven recptions for 73 yards this season.  

• LB Anthony Cardamone was tabbed as the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week. He tallied seven tackles, including 1.5 QB sacks (-10) and 1.5 tackles for loss (-10) in the Lakers' 59-13 victory at Wayne State. He was a key piece of a defense that limited Wayne State to 141 yards of total offense while he was in the game. Cardamone leads GVSU in total tackles with 52, including a team-best 4.5 QB sacks (-20) and 6.5 tackles for loss (-22), five QB hurries and a fumble recovery. Cardamone now has 242 career tackles, 34.5 tackles for loss and 19 QB sacks in his career. 

• PK Mathew Bacik was named the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week. Bacik hit a 29-yard field goal, was 8-for-8 in point after attempts and averaged 53.7 yards on nine kickoffs with one touchback at Wayne State. Bacik is 38-for-39 in PATs and has converted five field goals on the season, including a career-long 54-yarder. 

• PK Mathew Bacik hit a career-best 54-yard field goal at Ferris State. Bacik is 38-for-39 in PATs this season.

• 10 different receivers caught passes vs. Davenport, led by Sean Byrd's three receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown. 

• Riley Simpson set a GVSU record with his 96-yard fumble return for a touchdown at Pitt State, breaking the mark of 95 held by Scott Mackey vs. Findlay in 2002. 

• Other than the opening drive of the game and a 1-play, 75-yard touchdown on the first play late in the second quarter, the Laker defense limited Davenport to 152 yards of total offense on nine drives.

• GVSU Offense vs. Black Hills State...

   - 4 scoring drives of 65 yards or more

• GVSU tallied 18 plays of 10 yards or more vs. Black Hills State, including eight explosive plays of 20 yards or more.

• The Lakers recorded 436 yards of total offense on 56 plays vs. Black Hills State for an average of 7.8 yards per play.

• GVSU recorded four scoring plays of 27 (37, 55, 27, 33) yards or more and five of 14 yards or more, averaging 33.2 yards per scoring play vs. Black Hills State. 
• The Laker passing game averaged 11.5 yards per attempt and 17.0 yards per completion vs. Black Hills State.

• Grand Valley State redshirt freshman quarterback Andrew Schuster was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Schuster completed 22-of-32 passes for 391 yards and four touchdowns in the Lakers' 48-36 victory over Black Hills State. The 391 passing yards is a GVSU freshman record and tied for ninth on the list of all-time, single-game passing yards list. Schuster completed passes to 10 different receivers, tallied seven completions of 30 yards or more and he engineered seven scoring drives that did not eclipse 2:39. In addition, five touchdown drives were 65 yards or more. 

• The Laker defense tallied 11.0 tackles for loss (-53) and 4.0 QB sacks (-25) vs. Black Hills State. 

• The Laker offense has produced 13 plays of 20 or more through the first two games, including six that have gone for touchdowns.

• The GVSU offense was efficient, producing seven scoring drives and 10 possessions that ended with a kick. The Lakers picked up 26 first downs total. 

• RS freshman QB Andrw Schuster completed a freshman, single-game record 80.9 percent (17-of-21) of his passes vs. Lincoln. In addition, he completed passes to seven different players and completed three passes of 30 yards or more. 

• Junior LB Jimmy Downs tallied eight tackles, 2.0 TFL (-8), 1.0 QB sack (-8) and two QB hurries vs. Lincoln. 

• The Laker defense tallied 9.0 tackles for loss (-25) and picked off three passes vs. Lincoln, followed by an 11.0 (-53) TFL and 4.0 QB sack outing vs. Black Hills State.

• LB Torian Wyatt notched a career-high eight stops, a TFL and a QB sack at Pitt State. 

• DB Quin Wills recorded a career-high seven tackles at Pitt State.

• DL Jamari Buddin tallied six tackles, 2.0 TFL and a QB sack at Pitt State.

• DT Khamani Potts registered four tackles, 2.5 TFL and two QB hurries at Pitt State.

GVSU has led the nation in total attendance for 13 consecutive years and 2025 will be no different. The Lakers have drawn 62,368 through one home games (12,474 pg).

• Grand Valley State is the winningest FBS, FCS and Division II program in the country,boasting a record of 460-156-3 (.748) in 53 years of playing football. In addition, GVSU is also the winningest GLIAC program all-time with a 325-80-3 mark (.800).
