ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team returned home for the first time in 20 days, hosting Davenport for a Halloween night Crosstown Showdown. The Lakers completed the season sweep over the Panthers, dominating them for a three-set win.
GVSU took the sets by the scores of 25-14, 25-20, and 25-12. Grand Valley began set one on a 7-0 run, leading the entire way. DU got within three twice, the last time making it 14-11. The Lakers responded with a 9-1 run to retake control and cruise to the set one win. The two teams traded points for much of the second set, with the Lakers holding a slim 12-11 lead. They were able to get up 18-14, but the Panthers cut it to 20-22 late in the set. GVSU would answer with the final three points of the set, going up 2-0. With Grand Valley State leading 10-9 in the third set, the Lakers would go on a 10-0 run, getting three blocks and a service ace during the run, to take control of the final game. From that point on, they never looked back, completing the sweep of the Panthers.
Kendall Stover had a big game, totaling 11 kills on a .360 hitting percentage, adding a team-high 13 digs.
Meghan O'Sullivan notched nine kills and
Gabby Orlet dished out 29 assists.
Kennedy Arp and
Brianna Stawski each had six total blocks, with the Laker defense holding the Panthers to a .038 hitting percentage.
