GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team competed at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships at Davenport University and won three brackets. GVSU claimed two singles bracket crown and one doubles crown.
Sophomore
Natasha Sengphrachanh claimed the singles Flight A championship going a perfect 6-0 while dropping just two sets. With the win in the top singles bracket, Sengphrachanh punched her ticket to the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia beginning on October 16
th. She becomes the first singles player in GVSU history to advance to the ITA Cup.
Freshman
Lauren Burkett claimed the singles Flight B championship going a perfect 6-0 over the last three days. Burkett posted a 5-7, 6-2, 10-7 three-set win in the final match to give GVSU two wins in the top two singles draws. Also in singles action, freshman
Mischa Briggs posted a 3-1 record advancing to the quarterfinals in the Flight A bracket.
In doubles action,
Anna Soteras and
Amanda Diaz claimed the Flight B championship after posting a 5-0 record. Sengphrachanh and
Kalomoira Ralli went 2-1 and advanced to the quarterfinals in the Flight A doubles bracket. Briggs and
Vale Mozas also recorded a 2-1 record, advancing to the quarterfinals in the Flight A bracket.
Sengphrachanh will compete at the ITA Cup along with men's players Bora Bakici and Patricio Sepulveda on October 16
th in Rome, Georgia. This marks the first time ever in GVSU history that players from both the men and women's team will compete at the ITA Cup in the same season.
