Men’s Tennis Wins Final Two Matches of Fall Season

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team closed out their fall schedule with a 7-0 sweep over Grace College and a 5-2 win against Goshen this weekend. The Lakers end the fall season with a 2-0 record while also claiming a doubles ITA Regional Championship and ITA Cup appearance.
 
Grace College – W, 7-0
 
GVSU swept doubles action to claim the doubles point. Bora Bakici and Patricio Sepulveda posted a 7-6 win at the top doubles position. Lawrence Ivanov and Sebastian O'Byrne claimed a 6-4 win at the No. 2 doubles position. Axel Le Ho and Isaac Vens completed the sweep with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
 
In singles action, Denys Zamaraiev claimed a 6-1, 6-3 straight set win at the top singles position. Jorge Ruiz posted a 6-2, 6-1 straight set win at the No. 2 singles position. Santiago Castellanos recorded a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 three-set win at No. 3 singles. Stephen Claassen notched a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win at the No. 4 singles position. Andreu Martin claimed a dominant 6-1, 6-0 straight set win at the No. 5 singles position. Jose Pablo Mozas Pavon added a 6-1, 6-1 straight set win at No. 6 singles.
 
Goshen College – W, 5-2 
 
Goshen College claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Andreu Martin and Jose Pablo Mozas Pavon claimed a 6-4 win at the No. 3 doubles position. Santiago Castellanos and Denys Zamaraiev dropped a tough 6-7 decision at the top doubles position. Jorge Ruiz and Stephen Claassen fell 3-6 at the No. 2 doubles position.
 
In singles action, Bora Bakici claimed a 6-4, 6-4 straight set win at the top doubles position. Patricio Sepulveda posted a dominant 6-0, 6-0 straight set win at the No. 2 position. Axel Le Ho recorded a 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 three-set win at No. 3 singles. Isaac Vens notched a 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 three-set win at the No. 4 singles position. Lawrence Ivanov claimed a 6-1, 6-4 straight set win at the No. 5 singles position. Sebastian O'Byrne dropped a tough 6-2, 4-6, 5-10 decision at the No. 6 singles position.
