Lakers Take Down Hillsdale Saturday Afternoon

HAMMOND, IND. – The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team finished off the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament with a four-set victory over Hillsdale. The win moves them to 13-5 on the season.
 
GVSU took the match by the scores of 25-19, 25-16, 22-25, and 25-23. The Lakers got out to a quick start in set one, going up 7-3. Hillsdale would respond and tie the match at 12 apiece. Grand Valley answered with a 5-1 run, going up 17-13 and never let the Chargers back in the set, taking game one. With GVSU holding a slim 9-8 set two lead, the Lakers went on a 13-3 run to go up 22-12 and finished off the set two victory. The two teams traded points for much of set three, until an 8-3 Charger run put them up 19-15. They would hold on from there, forcing a game four. In game four, GVSU went up 7-3, then extended it out to 16-10. The Chargers wouldn't go away, coming back to tie the game at 20. After three straight Laker points, the Chargers got back within one at 22-23, but couldn't get any closer, as GVSU finished off their second victory over Hillsdale of the season.
 
Meghan O'Sullivan had a monster game, posting 18 kills, 26 assists, and 18 digs, hitting .517 and serving three aces. Brianna Stawski and Kendall Stover each had 12 kills, with Stawski hitting .478 and Stover adding 11 digs. Kate Goudreau recorded 11 kills, with Caroline Baker having 25 assists and Olivia Behen tallied 16 digs.

The Lakers return to GLIAC play next weekend, traveling to the Upper Peninsula to take on Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech.
