ALLENDALE, MICH. – The 21
st ranked Grand Valley State women's volleyball team began a two-match homestand with a Friday night matchup against Roosevelt. Facing their fellow Lakers, GVSU proved to be the better of the namesake, winning in a sweep.
GVSU took the match by the scores of 25-21, 25-15, and 25-19. The Lakers raced out to a 9-2 set one lead, but Roosevelt battled back within two at 16-14. They would never get any closer, as GV closed out the set one win. Set two saw GVSU once again get out to an early lead, going up 14-6. This time, RU never got back into the set, falling by 10 points. The third set was much closer to start, with the two teams tied at 11. Grand Valley responded with an 8-2 run, opening the game up at 19-13. Roosevelt was able to get back within four, but never any closer, as the Lakers completed the sweep.
Kendall Stover and
Kennedy Arp tied for the team lead with nine kills apiece. Stover swung .563 and Arp was at a .500 clip, adding four block assists.
Sara Pahl tallied eight kills, with
Brianna Stawski posting six kills and six block assists.
Kate Goudreau notched seven total blocks.
Meghan O'Sullivan and
Caroline Baker each had 16 assists, while
Grace Busold served three aces.
